Matt Ryan has assumed the role of president and chief executive officer of S&ME, Inc. Ryan was named president in late 2018 and, in accordance with the succession plan, he assumed the role of CEO in early 2019. As president and CEO, Ryan will provide leadership, direction and management for all aspects of the firm while further developing the company’s growth strategy.
Headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina, S&ME is an employee-owned firm, a component that drives the entrepreneurial spirit within the employee culture. Ryan was drawn to S&ME in large part due to its unique structure and approach to the client experience.
“It’s a privilege to work at an employee-owned firm truly dedicated to the individual client experience,” said Ryan. “S&ME has created an environment that allows for flexibility and versatility – something that our clients and employees have benefited from. S&ME’s approach encourages a greater collaboration, allows us to attract and keep talented individuals, and builds more durable bridges between our team and our clients.”
Ryan was selected to join S&ME after a three-year detailed search conducted by the company’s leadership team. One of Ryan’s first priorities on the job has been creating a strategic vision for the company, something he says he’s doing with the client and the employee top-of-mind.
“I’m proud of the 45 years that are behind us as part of the firm’s history and I’m excited to be part of the next 45 years as we embark on a new chapter,” said Ryan. “We have a deep bench of expertise in-house that’s constantly upping the ante on how to deliver smarter, safer solutions to clients. The future is bright for S&ME.”
Ryan joins S&ME from HDR, Inc., a global architectural, engineering, and consulting firm, where he held the title of executive vice president and director of professional services. While there, Ryan attained a successful leadership track record in growing business, leading transformation, and creating consensus and cultural buy-in. Prior to HDR, Inc, Ryan served as chief marketing officer and senior vice president at Industrial Piping, Inc., and senior policy director for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Ryan received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration in Finance from George Mason University.
