The ACE Mentor Program of Eastern Pennsylvania, the local affiliate of the nation’s fastest-growing industry mentoring program, hosted members and friends of the design and construction community Thursday, 15 February 2018 for a repeat of its successful Giant Jenga Tournament. The second annual event netted $15,000 for the ACE Alumni Scholarship Fund, supporting college and trade school students enrolled in architecture, engineering, and construction programs. The crowd of 300 players and spectators dramatically increased last year’s attendance at the inaugural Giant Jenga Tournament.

“The event brought together students, mentors, and friends from partner companies throughout the region,” said ACE Affiliate Director Tiffany Millner, AIA, NOMA. “Through competition and camaraderie, we demonstrated the strength of Philadelphia’s design and construction industry while raising money to support the next generation of architects, engineers, and construction professionals.”

Forty teams of four competed in a round-robin tournament playing a supersized version of the tabletop wooden block game, Jenga. Giant Jenga incorporated 2x4 blocks, with some towers reaching nearly six feet high. The winning team, representing McHugh Engineering of Ambler, Pa., earned naming rights for an alumni scholarship to be given at the 17th Annual ACE Scholarship Breakfast in May.

“It is incredibly gratifying to see so many organizations come together to support a great cause and a fun, original event,” said Brian Rawlings, PE, SECB, ACE Fundraising Committee Chair and Principal of O’Donnell & Naccarato Structural Engineers. “The scholarship money will make an enormous impact for so many deserving students as they pursue their careers.

Giant Jenga took place at the former General Electric Switchgear Factory (and home to the Electric Factory concert venue) at 421 North Seventh Street, Philadelphia, Pa., 19123 owned by Arts + Crafts Holdings, an ACE partner company. Live music was provided by XPRESIDENTS featuring Boy Wonder.

The inaugural Giant Jenga Tournament in February 2017 attracted over 100 attendees and netted $9,500 for ACE scholarships.
