In 2019, University of Cincinnati Health announced its $221 million Clifton Campus Revitalization project. The goal of the project is to create innovative environments that reflect the expertise and passion happening within its medical center every day.
The structure’s forward-looking design begins with its exterior, where metal wall panels are arranged in a complex pattern that helps break up the mass of the 45,000-sq.-ft. structure and sets it apart from the typical high school gym.
The most prominent of these projects is in Cincinnati, with a $42 million addition and renovation that more than doubled the space to 177 rooms, making it the largest in the world.
Dubbed 1010 On The Rhine, the mixed-use structure opened in the fall of 2019, with classical skyscraper massing that helps it fit into the surrounding historic district, and a unique metal panel and glass façade that makes sure it stands out in the city’s skyline.
To frame the glazing and add some calming counterpoint to that elevation’s pattern and color, designers opted for neutral-toned metal flush and relief wall panels installed in a vertical arrangement that echoes the curtain wall’s mullions.
