Post-hurricane reports by the Roofing Industry Committee on Weather Issues (RICOWI) point to the perimeter and corners as the most vulnerable points of low-slope roofs. Why is it, then, that perimeter edge metal is often value engineered out of the system? The perimeter edge represents a relatively small part of a building’s overall cost, but it carries a significant risk of liability. When you see statistics that cite edge failures being responsible for 60 percent of roof warranty claims, the point is clear: You don’t want to take the edge metal for granted.

ARW’s sister publication,Roofing Contractor, will host a free webinar focusing on perimeter edge metal on June 27 at 11 a.m. Eastern time. The course is titled “Perimeter Edge Metal: First Line of Defense Against Wind Events and Costly Litigation.” Speaker Jim Townsend of Exceptional Metals will define the perimeter roof edge and explain the importance of proper edge metal design and installation. He’ll also provide overview of the relevant codes and standards, including ANSI/SPRI ES-1.

If you can’t attend the live event, you can view it on demand at your convenience. (Note: This course does not qualify for continuing education credits.)
