The project’s design faced a unique set of challenges due to the compact size and its proximity to the imposing 9 West 57th Street. Rather than compete in scale, Hill West focused on creating a building that was whimsical and elegant.
The project’s architect, R2L Architects, required an exterior cladding material that would create a visually captivating façade while also delivering design flexibility and an expedited construction schedule.
The architects opted to use insulated metal panels (IMPs) for the 36,000 square-foot expansion, which brought the distribution center to approximately 225,000 square feet.

To accommodate the growing need of services for the community, the city constructed a new 40,000-square-foot public safety building to house its central fire station, fire administration, police headquarters and municipal court. Zinc panels were an integral part of the design goals and ultimate success of the new facility.
