FCA announced the appointment of Stephen Szutenbach, AIA, NCARB, LEED BD+C, WELL AP, as Principal and Florida Practice Lead. With over 15 years of experience designing forward-thinking healthcare environments, Stephen will spearhead the firm's continued growth in Orlando across the healthcare, higher education, and commercial markets.
Building upon FCA’s decades-long legacy, the Orlando practice was established in 2019 to further ingrain the firm in the region and grew in size shortly after with a strategic acquisition of Fred M. Humphrey & Associates in 2022. Stephen’s addition comes at a pivotal time given Florida’s flourishing healthcare and development landscape. His extensive healthcare design expertise, coupled with his deep understanding of the Central Florida market and proven track record of building strong client relationships, positions FCA to further expand the team’s services throughout the region.
Prior to joining FCA, Stephen held leadership positions at AdventHealth and HKS. His work focuses on creating healthcare environments that enhance healing while offering moments of joy for patients. He has also worked on higher education spaces including Florida International University and Palm Beach State College. Stephen’s initial interest in architecture was sparked by admiring the artistry of cathedrals, later leading him to pursue his Master of Architecture from the University of Florida.
“To have Stephen join our team is an honor as he is a well-known creative and a highly respected professional in this industry," says FCA Principal Roseann Latta, AIA. “His people-first approach and commitment to transformational design makes him a seamless fit for our firm’s culture. We are deeply looking forward to this next chapter for the Orlando practice under his guidance."
Stephen’s portfolio boasts a distinguished array of healthcare projects, including the award-winning AdventHealth for Women facility, earning multiple accolades including the AIA Orlando Award of Honor and the AIA Florida Merit Award for Excellence. He also maintains strong ties to the local design community through teaching positions at the University of Central Florida and Valencia College.
"Architecture is a team sport—it requires so many different minds to come together and harmonize to create the final product," says Stephen. “I’m excited to work with all of my new colleagues at FCA to ensure we are the go-to firm for great design, great service and great people in Florida and beyond.”
