Hord Coplan Macht, an award-winning integrated architecture, interiors, landscape design, and planning firm, is pleased to announce the addition of Jean Lee Pirkey, AIA, NCARB, LEED GA, to its Charlotte office. As Associate Principal, Pirkey brings a diverse background spanning nearly three decades in healthcare design to further expand and enhance the firm’s work in the sector. Pirkey’s talent for curating comfortable and efficient patient spaces translates into a knack for creativity in problem solving through design. Her expertise will strengthen Hord Coplan Macht’s commitment to a forward-thinking approach to the built environment.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Jean Lee to the Charlotte practice — as our firm continues to expand its reach and scope, Jean Lee's background will be a major asset on our future work in healthcare design, and will continue to position us as a powerful design partner within the industry,” said Tim Barnhill, CEO of Hord Coplan Macht.
Pirkey is passionate about creating healing spaces that are integrated, innovative, and reflective of a health system’s needs. With careful attention to details and anticipating client needs, she seeks to improve patient care and experience for all who enter medical facilities. Pirkey is also an active member of various professional organizations, including the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health, Women in Healthcare, and the Association of Medical Facility Professionals.
In her new role, Pirkey will work closely with Jim Albert, Hord Coplan Macht’s Healthcare Market Sector Leader, to expand the firm’s presence in the Carolinas as well as collaborate with the other Hord Coplan Macht offices across Maryland, Metro DC, and Colorado.
Prior to joining Hord Coplan Macht, Pirkey managed various projects in all phases of design from schematic master planning to construction completion. With a portfolio of projects –– including the recent expansion and renovation of the Iredell Health System’s Critical Care Unit in Statesville, NC and the Atrium Health Mountain Island Emergency Department in Charlotte, NC –– Pirkey looks forward to continuing to grow the healthcare sector in Hord Coplan Macht’s project roster. Currently, she is actively involved in the team's ongoing projects, including an expansion of Roper St. Francis Berkely Hospital in Summerville, South Carolina and a NCCC renovation at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
