SBLM Architects announced that Ann Chu, Assoc. AIA, has joined the firm as the new Director of the Healthcare & Wellness Studio in the New York City office. With over 25 years of experience in the healthcare field, Chu will lead the growth of the HealthCare & Wellness Studio, expanding its project portfolio and design team. At a time when the healthcare industry is shifting alongside the continued introduction of cutting-edge technologies, Chu’s expertise will help reimagine healthcare spaces by bringing forward-thinking designs and programming to the studio’s projects.
“Ann is well known, well liked and quite competent. She will certainly increase our presence in various healthcare communities,” comments Joshua Burdick, president of SBLM Architects. “Ann has already hit the ground running at the firm and is working on the Northwell Health South Shore University Hospital’s four-story, Brackett Building addition, which includes Hybrid ORs and patient rooms. Ann’s role in this project illustrates her deep expertise in healthcare environments that are technologically challenging and require a keen awareness of the clients’ objectives.”
Previously, Chu worked for 25 years at a Long Island, New York based architectural firm which she joined in 1996. Through her work, Chu collaborated with almost every department of a hospital, accruing an impressive roster of clients that includes NYU Winthrop C.S.S, Montefiore Medical Center, and New York Presbyterian Queens. Her portfolio is vast, having worked on projects such as Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s new Oncology Center and Total Orthopedics and Sports Medicine’s Ambulatory Surgery Unit on Long Island.
At SBLM Architects, Chu will work on a wide range of healthcare and wellness projects, particularly those that utilize new technologies in radiology and hybrid operating rooms. “Healthcare plays such a special role in our world,” says Chu. “No matter what is going on around us, people’s health is always a priority, and this is something that has been made increasingly clear to everyone in light of the pandemic. I’m thankful for this exciting opportunity and I look forward to growing SBLM’s Healthcare & Wellness Studio together.”
