It was recently announced that Sto Corp., the innovative world leader in full system facades, prefabrication, air barriers, coatings, and restoration solutions, would be honored with two of the top awards from the Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry’s (AWCI’s) 2021 Excellence in Construction Quality Awards. These awards recognize the finest industry products and the craftsmanship and management expertise of the contractors who use them. The Mary’s Woods Village Project won the Stucco category while the Hub on Campus project was one of two winners in the EIFS category.
“These projects are both excellent examples of Sto’s industry-leading innovation making a difference in real-world applications,” explained Paul Bieber, Sto Corp’s Vice President of Sales. “We’re honored that the AWCI chose to recognize them.”
The Mary’s Woods Village Project (a retirement community of nine buildings) demonstrated excellence in the Stucco category when the team overcame the logistical challenges of having material manufactured, shipped, and delivered from more than 400 miles away and delays caused by rain when installing fluid-applied membrane and stucco. StoPowerwall® Stucco System was an instrumental solution as the stucco was installed over a drainage mat and self-furring expanded metal lath.
The team on the Hub on Campus project meanwhile were honored in the EIFS category for producing a very demanding and time-sensitive build. Time, space, and the sheer number of wall penetrations all presented challenges. As a student housing project, there was an immovable deadline and a restricted jobsite, and as the design featured individual apartments with multiple wall penetrations, panels were prefabricated and waterproofed at the fabrication plant as part of the StoPanel® Classic ci System, providing the highest quality building envelope with aesthetic options to accommodate any design.
The awards will be accepted in October during the AWCI Convention.
