The 2020 Atlantic hurricane season has been the most active ever documented, with thirteen storms strengthening to hurricanes, the second highest number in recorded history. To help national and international communities recover, Simpson Strong-Tie has donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
Arriving within two weeks of each other, Hurricanes Eta and Iota affected millions of people. Eta disrupted the lives of more than 2.5 million people from Panama to Belize, with the most severe impact in Honduras, Nicaragua and Guatemala, according to the American Red Cross. In Nicaragua, 33,000 people had no access to drinking water, and in Honduras, 1.7 million people evacuated to more than 170 shelters. Red Cross teams remain actively engaged in relief efforts through distribution of relief items and psychosocial and emotional support.
“The 2020 hurricane season has been unprecedented in modern history, affecting hundreds of millions of people around the world,” said Simpson Strong-Tie CEO Karen Colonias. “We are privileged to be able to support relief and recovery efforts in thousands of communities here in the US and abroad.”
