Simpson Strong-Tie, the leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions, is again joining other industry associations and organizations in supporting the International Code Council (ICC) 2019 Building Safety Month in May. As a Theme Week 1 Co-Sponsor, Simpson Strong-Tie is encouraging the industry and the general public to learn more about ways to make buildings, homes and decks safe and strong.
Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign held every May to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe, sustainable structures. This year’s theme is “No Code. No Confidence.” The five-week campaign spotlights a specific area of building safety through weekly topics, “Preparing for Disasters: Build Strong, Build Smart,” “Ensuring a Safer Future Through Training and Education,” “Securing Clean, Abundant Water for All Communities,” “Construction Professionals and Homeowners: Partners in Safety,” and “Innovations in Building Safety.” The overall goal is to reinforce the need for adopting modern, model building codes as well as implementing strong and efficient code enforcement and developing a well-trained, professional workforce to maintain the system. “We are proud of our mission to help people design and build safer, stronger structures, which aligns well with Building Safety Month. As a long-term sponsor, we are committed to educating the industry and the public about the importance of building codes,” said Karen Colonias, president and CEO of Simpson Strong-Tie.
Simpson Strong-Tie has several resources that help support the initiatives of Building Safety Month, including educational materials about designing and constructing homes and buildings to resist earthquakes and high winds as well as building and retrofitting code-compliant wood decks.
