Knauf Insulation North America is giving builders and contractors a custom solution to meet California’s Title 24 Option B High-Performance Ventilated Attic (HPA) code requirements with the introduction of EcoBatt Integrated Roof Deck (IRD) insulation. Builders will get an up-close look at the new, state-of-the-art glass wool insulation this week at PCBC (Booth #122) at the San Diego Convention Center, June 28–29.
"Knauf Insulation strives to be a valued partner to our customers, offering innovative ways to navigate the ever-changing code landscape," said Gary Romes, manager of business development, residential and light commercial, Knauf Insulation. "EcoBatt IRD was designed specifically to be a cost-effective and labor-efficient way for builders to insulate unconditioned attic spaces, as required by new California code."
California building code now allows for insulation options for unconditioned spaces such as attics, where HVAC systems and water heaters are often placed in states where basements are not standard. EcoBatt IRD offers a fast, clean and hassle-free way to achieve these requirements. It can be installed with no special preparation or equipment, saving time compared to competitive solutions. It has an attractive finished appearance that can easily meet California’s High Quality Insulation Installation (QII) standards, providing a uniform layer of continuous insulation underneath the roof deck that envelopes truss chords and creates a thermal break. In addition, the product offers easy handling for overhead installation and its custom facing is designed to secure the batt to the roof deck.
EcoBatt cuts cleanly and easily, recovers quickly, and is soft to the touch due to ECOSE Technology—Knauf’s original plant-based, sustainable binder. With consistent quality and low dust, EcoBatt delivers thermal efficiency and excellent acoustic performance. It is ideal for creating quiet, more temperature-neutral environments to house HVAC and other units in new construction.
In line with Knauf Insulation’s commitment to transformative sustainable development, EcoBatt IRD has achieved the UL Environment GREENGUARD Gold certification, is UL Environment validated to be formaldehyde-free and has earned a Declare Label through the Living Future Institute. Products are also certified to UL Environment GREENGUARD standards for low chemical emissions into indoor air during product usage.
