Valspar, an industry leader in architectural coatings products, introduces the newest addition to its Fluropon 70 percent PVDF family of coil and extrusion coatings, Fluropon Pure. Formulated with material transparency in mind, Fluropon Pure is the first of its kind in the coating industry.

“Fluropon Pure is the result of Valspar’s commitment to sustainability and desire to create products that meet our clients’ changing needs,” said Jeff Alexander, Valspar VP of sales, coil and extrusion division. “We know the architecture community is placing a greater emphasis on not only manufacturing practices, but the formula and chemistry behind products. Fluropon Pure coating makes it easier for users to meet the stringent demands of sustainability programs like LEED v4 and Living Building Challenge, while upholding industry-leading performance in durability and color retention properties customers have come to expect from Fluropon.”

By listing materials used to formulate Fluropon Pure, Valspar’s transparency in the manufacturing process is making it easier for purchasers to make informed product decisions. Notably absent in the Fluropon Pure formula are hexavalent chromium, lead, phthalates, and PFOA, allowing the product to meet Living Building Challenge’s Red List 3.0-Compliant requirement.

Furthermore, Fluropon Pure is the ideal coating for builders aiming to achieve credits under LEED v4, including:

  • Building life cycle impact reduction
  • Heat island reduction – roof
  • Building product disclosure and optimization – environmental product declarations
  • Building product disclosure and optimization – material ingredients

“We understand that achieving high marks in sustainability can be a challenging, yet rewarding process,” continues Alexander. “We’ve made it our mission to offer assistance and technical information to any customer working towards a green goal in order to help them achieve their desired rating as efficiently as possible.”

Fluropon Pure delivers the same capabilities of Valspar’s original Fluropon line, including cool roof formulations. Incorporating the high performing pigments into Fluropon Pure addresses the urban heat island effect, and also helps building owners increase energy-efficiency. Additionally, the coating is trusted to protect buildings against harsh outdoor elements, including humidity and corrosion as well as dirt, stains, and chemicals.

Valspar will showcase the new coating at the 2016 Living Future Unconference in Seattle, Washington, May 11-13. Located at booth #34, attendees can stop by to learn more about Valspar’s sustainability initiatives and how Fluropon Pure can help achieve their eco-friendly design and construction goals.
