Huitt-Zollars Inc. announces Douglas Oliver as national Director of Design. Formerly the firm's Design Director for the Houston and Los Angeles offices, Oliver will be expanding his role by assuming company-wide responsibility with respect to architectural and interior design, and oversight throughout the firm's 22 domestic and international offices.
Throughout his 30-year career, Oliver has built an impressive portfolio that speaks for itself, featuring 25 awards for design excellence. Among other prestigious commissions, he served as Lead Designer of the George Bush Presidential Library Center on the Texas A&M campus in College Station, and played an active role in the execution of various international projects in Mexico, Germany, Italy, China, and the Middle East. Major current work includes the Student Services Building for Santa Monica College, a multi-use project at the Texas A&M University College Station campus, and the new 1000-room downtown convention center hotel in Houston, a Marriot Marquis property scheduled to open in 2016.
Oliver began his career in architectural design after graduating with distinction from Texas A&M and Harvard University. Highlights of Douglas' career include a traveling fellowship from the Skidmore Owings Merrill Foundation, a Progressive Architecture (PA) Award from Architecture Magazine, and an internship with acclaimed architect and theoretician Peter Eisenman in New York. Among his various accomplishments, he considers his most rewarding to be in the training of young architects, serving as a Professor in Practice at Rice University since 1997.
Oliver joined the design team of Morris Architects in 2005. Morris Architects merged with Huitt-Zollars in 2012 to expand Huitt-Zollars' design capabilities and to better serve clients in a more broad range of disciplines.
