The Engineering Society of Detroit’s 41st annual Construction and Design awards have been announced. NSA Architects, Engineers and Planners have been awarded an honorable mention for their work on Fiat Chrysler Automotive (FCA US) Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) Body Shop Facility.

The project is a world-class manufacturing facility designed to responsible sustainable design concepts and practices. The result was a state-of-the-art 1 million square-feet Body Shop with supporting office space, employee cafeteria, locker rooms, meeting spaces and a Metrology Center. The project also earned LEED Gold Certification.

“The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant Body Shop—from design beginnings through completion—was not just about a building,” explains Frank Ray, President and CEO of NSA. “It was about building something that would impact the present and future of FCA US, the automotive industry and the city of Sterling Heights.”

Now among the most prestigious in the industry, the ESD Construction and Design Awards are unique in that they honor the primary members of the building team—owners, designers and builders.
