The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association (ARMA) has named James R. Kirby, AIA, as director of technical services. Kirby now serves as a staff liaison for ARMA’s Ventilation Task Force and Life Cycle Analysis Task Force, while providing support for the Technical Research Group and Communications, Marketing and Education Committee. He also represents ARMA at industry events, including ICC code hearings and ASTM D08 meetings.

Kirby brings to ARMA a wealth of experience in the roofing and architecture industries. He uses this expertise throughout his responsibilities as director of technical services, including authoring technical articles and responding to requests for information from the public. Kirby most recently served as vice president of sustainability at the Center for Environmental Innovation in Roofing (CEIR). Prior to this, he held the role of associate executive director of technical communications for the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA).

“For the past 100 years, ARMA has been committed to providing technical research, publications and education to the consumer and professional,” said Kirby. “I look forward to becoming part of that history by helping the association expand its technical services and continue as a leader in the roofing industry.”

Kirby holds a Master of Architecture−Structures Option and a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois. He also earned a Graduate Certification in Sustainable Building Design and Construction from Boston Architectural College.

“The architecture experience, association know-how and technical knowledge Kirby has developed throughout his career make him a valuable addition to ARMA,” said Reed Hitchcock, ARMA’s executive vice president. “By bringing him on, the association has strengthened its role as a provider of technical resources and roofing practices to the industry.”
