BENCHMARK by Kingspan, already known for adding curb appeal, advanced building envelope technology, outstanding durability, and sustainable building enhancements, has announced the Designwall line of insulated metal panels now feature an added built-in benefit, the new high performance joint.
The innovative high performance joint offers superior performance in air and water penetration resistance. This is due to the combination of a double sealed joint in the face/liner, a double-sloped drainage shelf, as well as a double pressure equalization chamber. The new joint also offers exceptional structural performance via the positive fastening of both faces.
Designwall panels featuring the new high performance joint are available up to 4-inch thick, with ribbed panels available in 2.5-, 3-, and 4-inch thick. For projects specifying 2-inch panels, with both ribbed and flat panels, 2.5-inch panels can be quoted, offering the opportunity for higher R-values than originally specified.
The high performance joint has been tested for structural performance, static air and water, and dynamic water penetration with outstanding results. More testing is in process, with regional approvals such as Miami-Dade, LACC, and UL Canada pending.
The new joint also helps contribute to favorable R-values. In preliminary thermal modeling assessments, panels featuring the new joint state an average value of R-7 per inch thickness for flat panels. Results of full scale testing per ASTM C1363 will be forthcoming.
