NEWTON, Mass. — Since 1994, METALCON International has met the yearly goal of donating goods, services, and/or funds to non-profit organizations and worthy causes serving local host communities. This year’s giving-back recipient is Atlanta-based It’s The Journey Inc., a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. Over the past 10 years, the 2-Day Walk has funded 188 grants totaling $9 million to support breast health programs throughout the state.
The 11th annual 2-Day Walk takes place October 5-6, just two days after the conclusion of METALCON 2013, which runs October 1-3 at the Georgia World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta.
METALCON has set a donation goal of $25,000 and has begun fundraising efforts. “With full participation by exhibitors, attendees, speakers, vendors and staff, our goal will be easily achieved,” METALCON Show Director Claire Kilcoyne said. “Further, we hope many within this circle will also join our METALCON Team — the Metal Magnolias — in the 2-Day Walk. By building on the comradeship and team spirit engendered during the show, we can fulfill our hope of offering generous support to this worthy charity. Working to fulfill this sponsorship is also a wonderful journey that we can enjoy together.”
Donations can be made by logging on to the Metal Magnolias team page at www.2daywalk.org.kintera.org/2013Walker/metalconand clicking on General Team Donation. Contributions in the form of a check made payable to It’s The Journey Inc. can also be sent directly to METALCON, 10 Midland Ave., Newton, MA 02458. All contributions will be acknowledged, and funds will be tallied on the team site.
To join the team and walk without a fee, download, complete and mail a Metal Magnolias walker form to It’s The Journey Inc., 270 Carpenter Drive, Suite 515, Atlanta, GA 30328.
