Chris Griffin headshotWASHINGTON — The Polyisocyanurate Insulation Manufacturers Association (PIMA) announced that Chris Griffin, technical director of Johns Manville Roofing Systems, has assumed the chairmanship of the organization. He replaces John Geary of Firestone Building Products, who has served as the PIMA chairman for the last two years.

“With over 20 years of experience in the aerospace and roofing industries, Chris brings a unique combination of knowledge and skills to PIMA,” said Jared Blum, president of PIMA. “Given his deep understanding of the polyiso insulation industry, and his extensive experience in product development, research and the roofing industry, the Association will benefit and flourish under his leadership.”

A materials scientist by training, Dr. Griffin earned both his Bachelor of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees from Imperial College in London. Dr. Griffin moved to the United States in 1991 to work on programs related to aerospace research and development for 3M in Minnesota. While at 3M, he became technical manager of the Roofing Granules Division and, soon after, the manager of research and development and product development for 3M’s specialty optical fiber business.

“It is a very exciting time to be leading PIMA given the recent and numerous code changes for roofing insulation and continuous insulation requirements for walls, and the federal focus on job creation in the construction and roofing industries,” Dr. Griffin said. “We have a real opportunity to accelerate the growth of our industry while helping the country save energy and generate jobs.”

Dr. Griffin currently acts as technical director of the Roofing Business and Business Leader for Asphalt Roofing and Boards & Insulations for Johns Manville Roofing Systems.
